New from Growtac! The Equal Disc Hub has landed and yeah, it's awesome! Hubs can be a hard bike component to master but Growtac have smashed it.
With a simple, strong and elegant design the Equal hubs are light and efficient. Designed with easy maintenance in mind which offer long-term trouble-free operation.
The freehub body uses two 6902 bearings and is built from super tough A7075 T6 Aluminium. The Sprocket Stabilisation Ring on the freehub body minimises the embedding of the 12 speed cassettes and their 'adhesive ring' thus preventing potential troubles and maintaining optimal shifting performance.
Inside the bearings there are gaps in the vertical, horizontal, and lateral directions. If there were no gaps, the bearings wouldn't be able to rotate. However, using these gaps as they are, can lead to reduced rigidity, decreased rotational performance and a shorter lifespan. Therefore, it's necessary to apply preload to the bearings. When preload is applied, the balls are in constant contact with the inner and outer races, resulting in improved rigidity and rotational performance.
GROWTAC EQUAL hubs have opted for the 'elastic method'. A method of creating preload with a leaf spring. More info can be found in the Tech Sheet.
The classic and well loved 3-pawl ratchet system has proven its performance over the years, the ratchet consists of 36 pawls. This is the smoothest and most robust design made to significantly reduce maintenance, but still with high engagement and lower noise level.
Striking a perfect balance between performance and waterproofing is challenging, thats why Growtac hubs use a Chemical Labyrinth Seal. In short this seal type is the most effective way to keep water out of places you don't want it to be.
An unusual Non-Newtonian grease exhibiting the Weissenberg effect is used in these hubs - While conventional grease tends to disperse outward due to the centrifugal force of rotation, EQUAL Grease possesses the unique property of remaining in place or gathering at moving parts.
